Rastar Games' MapleStory IP Title Tops iOS and Google Play Free Charts on Launch Day in Japan

 On February 26, 2025, MapleStory R: Evolution (Japanese: 『メイプルストーリーR:エボリューション』, Chinese: 《冒险岛R:进化》), an idle RPG independently developed by Rastar Games and officially licensed by NEXON Korea , launched in Japan. On its first day, the game soared to the top of both the iOS and Google Play free download charts, and by the second day, it had entered the top 20 of the iOS top-grossing games chart.

 

 

 

As a legacy title built on the classic MapleStory IP, MapleStory R: Evolution is a carefully crafted idle adventure RPG that faithfully reproduces the original visuals while offering a laid-back one-handed gameplay experience designed around easy progression.

 

Spanning over two decades, MapleStory has become a generational cultural icon, beloved by players born between 1985 and 2005. Since its debut in 2003, this legendary IP has continued to set industry records, amassing 180 million registered users worldwide and establishing a vast ecosystem. Its influence stretches from key Asian markets like China, Korea, and Japan to emerging markets in Europe and North America. With global revenue exceeding USD 5 billion, the IP continues to lead the MMORPG genre.

 

As a cornerstone of Rastar Games’ global strategy, the MapleStory IP has been central to its efforts in premium game development and localized, cross-regional operations. Since entering into the IP partnership with NEXON, Rastar Games has launched localized versions of MapleStory games in regions such as Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia—with impressive results.

 

For example, MapleStory REvolution launched in September 2021 across Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, hitting No. 1 in both iOS grossing and free app rankings in Taiwan within just five hours of release. It was later ranked No. 13 in Sensor Tower’s October 2021 chart for overseas revenue growth of Chinese mobile games. In July 2023, MapleStory R: Evolution launched in Southeast Asia, topping iOS free charts for 10 consecutive days across Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, and ranking No. 1 in Singapore’s top-grossing charts. It again entered Sensor Tower’s overseas growth chart for Chinese mobile games in August 2023.
